Ahdept, an exciting startup that merges the Internet of Things and AI, is looking for a creative and talented Industrial Designer with strong graphic design capabilities. We are looking for an Industrial Designer who looks at the big picture and has a diverse skill set, the conceptualization and development of new products including creating aspects of form, aesthetics, physical and psychological interfaces between users and products, and system compatibility where required. May contribute to and work within project criteria established by other business functions, for example has a general understanding of mechanical engineering and various other adjacent expertise. Determines materials, construction, mechanisms, shape, color, surface finish, manufacturing processes and packaging in cooperation with other business functions involved in the new product development process.

This individual must possess the creative and technical design abilities to complete various assignments and tasks. This role will be essential in the facilitation of the full product lifecycle from design inception to finished product.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Working with multiple teams to create unique and exceptional consumer products with the ability to switch gears quickly from project to project while adhering to a schedule.
  • Conceptualizing and thinking accurately in 3D and making renderings and illustrations of product front, side and back views in Illustrator or Photoshop.
  • Provide technical specifications (product materials, colors, measurements, manufacturing processes and details) for each product so sampling and production can run accordingly.
  • Develop new product packaging concepts. Prepare mock-ups, technical renderings and die lines.
  • Create original print and pattern designs for use on products and packaging.
  • Test and correct prototypes and samples to ensure original design vision and technical specifications are met in product form.
  • Provide feedback and corrections to improve samples in preparation for mass production and final product approval.
  • Ensure product quality, performance and safety meets company standards.
  • Continually research new opportunities and design creative concepts that align with overall brand direction and objectives.
  • Must create the documentation necessary to convey the design solution to management or other business functions through renderings, models, mechanical drawings, and written reports.
  • Participate actively in various design reviews and company meetings.

Essential Job Functions – Responsibilities:

  • Analyze the intended use of products and user preferences to inform and implement creative designs and functions; requires the use of CAD and other computer visualization software.
  • Create novel design ideas and run them through prototyping or proof of concept; requires hands on involvement with prototyping process
  • Work effectively with a cross-functional team of engineers to develop designs and processing methods that push the state-of-the-art for products.
  • Work independently and proactively identify and solve problems, while occasionally being directed in several aspects of the work.

Education and Experience Required: (Knowledge, skills, & abilities)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
  • 2+ years of related experience; demonstrated experience with design and hands on prototyping of complex systems
  • Proficient in Solidworks 3D modeling (Previous experience with other 3D modeling or surface modeling programs a plus but not required)
  • Proficient in and Intimate knowledge of Adobe Suite (CS6) or higher
  • Photoshop – ID Concept Sketching, Image Editing, High Quality 2D Rendering
  • Illustrator – Vector Works, Info-graphics, Packaging Layout, Various Advertising Layouts, Product Label Artworks
  • InDesign – Presentation Layout, Instruction Manual Layout, Various Advertising Layouts
  • Proficient in ID Product Concept Sketching on 2D medium (paper)
  • Proficient in Keyshot Pro2 (or higher) 3D model rendering (Previous experience with other similar programs a plus but not required)
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism and refine stronger product concept ideas
  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one’s own work group.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
